Welcome to Woolich Racing |
Welcome and thank you for your interest in Woolich Racing products!
We sell products that allow you to reflash your motorcycle's ECU, so that you can tune your bike to the limit and achieve the best possible performance. Woolich Racing also offers a selection of 'Race Tools' to further increase the capabilities of your motorcycle, these including Quickshifter/Autoblipper for clutchless gear changing, Launch Control and more. To tune your bike with the Woolich Racing Software, you (or your tuner) will need to purchase: - An interface (USB or Log Box)
- Harness (either on-bike, or bench) (Some models also need an extension harness)
- Bin File (the standard binary file flashed to your ECU, and Key (licence) to tune 1 bike)
You will also need a PC to install the software and connect the interface to. This allows you to tune your bike an unlimited number of times. The hardware, and software we provide allows the maps in the ECU, to be changed by you or your Tuner. Changing the maps allows the adjustment of the air-fuel ratio to a safer mixture when changing the exhaust on a stock bike, as well as changing the ignition timing, and a host of other maps and settings. A skilled tuner is required to get the correct mixture at all RPM's, and throttle positions. A Tuning shop will normally put the bike on a dyno, and monitor the air-fuel ratio while running the bike through the RPM's. They then make changes to the fuel maps based on the results, and 'tune' your bike. For some models this can be done with the basic USB Package without removing the ECU from the bike. Other models require the ECU to be pulled out of the bike to be flashed using a bench harness. For most customers, they will prefer to take their bike to a dyno tuner to tune their motorcycle, but if you are willing to spend the time to learn how to tune your bike, and to spend the time iterating the tune to achieve a desired result, buying your own kit could be a great investment. I have bought a second-hand Interface (USB or Log Box) - How Can I Use It? |
The Woolich Racing Tuned software can be used to tune your bike and get the best performance out of it. This article describes the steps needed to transfer ownership of second-hand Woolich Racing products to your account so you can use them to tune your bike.
To tune your bike with the Woolich Racing Software, you will need the following: - A communication interface (USB or Log Box)
- Harness (either on-bike, or bench)
- Bin File (the standard binary file to write to your ECU and the associated key (licence) to tune 1 bike)
The components listed above are available to purchase as packages for all supported motorcycle models on our Products page. These packages include everything needed to get started on tuning your bike.
If you have purchased some Woolich Racing products second-hand, either by themselves or installed onto a bike, there are certain steps that you will need to compete in order to be able to use them.
The communication interfaces used to 'talk' to an ECU (e.g. USB or Log Box) are registered to the account of their owner; these cannot be used with other accounts. In order to use a second-hand communication interface (e.g. USB or Log Box), you will need to transfer the ownership of the device(s) from the seller to your own Woolich Racing account. Please note: We do not transfer devices between accounts just so you can temporarily loan it to a friend.
There are a few steps that both the seller and buyer need to go through to successfully transfer ownership.
Transferring ownership of Woolich Racing equipment to a new owner.
Seller instructions - Please email support@woolichracing.com and let us know the following
- Confirm that you have sold the hardware, and inform us exactly what hardware is being sold.
- Tell us who the buyer is (Name and email required)
- Confirm that you give your permission to transfer of the device to the Buyer.
Buyer instructions- Create a new Woolich Racing Customer account
- Important: Fill out the registration/new account form completely, do not leave any blank fields as this will delay us being able to verify and activate the new account.
- Create a Support Ticket in our online portal and include the following information
- Your Woolich Racing account username (email address)
- Let us know that you have purchased second-hand Woolich Racing products
- Include a list of all parts included
- Include photos of the items included
- Include the Serial Number(s) of any Race Tools products
- Tell us who the seller is (Name and email required)
Once your Woolich Racing account is verified, you will be able to download the Woolich Racing Tuned software and install it on your PC.
If the Buyer is taking the whole package including a bike, then after the interface transfer is done, we will send further instructions for transferring the Key/License for the Woolich-flashed ECU.
The key in the ECU may or may not be eligible for transfer. Note: a key may only transfer a select number of times. If your key has exceeded this limit, it would be ineligible for transfer.
To determine this, we can give you a temporary key, so you can read the ECU and submit the key transfer request. If it is found to be eligible, you will not be required to purchase a key. However, if it is not eligible for transfer, then you will be required to purchase a new Key to write to the ECU again.
If you are only buying the Woolich Hardware without a bike, then you will also need to purchase any required harnesses to fit your bike, as well as a Key/License to flash your ECU.

Kawasaki Bench Harness 22 and 23 - Which one Do I Need? |
This article specifically relates to ECUs and harnesses for several Kawasaki models from 2020 onwards. These models use bench harnesses for ECU flashing and cause some confusion when trying to select the correct harness to use to connect the Woolich Racing Communication Interface (Log Box or USB) to the ECU as there are 2 different versions of the ECU plugs.
The bikes affected by this all use the Kawasaki Bench Harness 22 or 23 and are listed below. The information below helps to identify which version you have and then to understand which harness you will need to flash the ECU. The Kawasaki Bench Harness Type 22 is normally for the full power models, and both ECU plugs are the same size. The Kawasaki Bench Harness Type 23 is normally used for the restricted models, the ECU has a larger plug, so it requires a different Bench harness. This is not related to the options in the Woolich Racing Tuned software, only the physical size of the ECU plug.
2020+ Models which are currently affected include (but are not limited to): - Ninja 400 / EX400
- Ninja 650 / EX650
- Versys 650
- Vulcan S 650
- Z400
- Z650
- Z900
- Z900 RS
- ZX6R (636)

Finding the Correct Harness Using Woolich Racing Tuned Software |
The Woolich Racing Tuned (WRT) software is regularly updated with the latest supported models of bike/ECU and can be used to find the correct harness for them. Firstly you click on 'New' to open the 'Model Selector' window and then you select the year, make and model along with a part number for a particular ECU. The software will tell you which harnesses and devices are used as shown in the steps below.
This method allows you to check which ECU part numbers are supported, so you can see whether your particular ECU is already supported by the WRT software.
1. Click on 'New' to open the 'Model Selector'
2. Select the manufacturer ('Make')
3. Select the Model
4. Select the Year
5. Select the ECU Part Number. The list shows all ECUs currently supported by the WRT software, typically all of the ECUs for a specific make/model/year will use the same harness and devices to connect. If your ECU is not shown here then it is not yet supported but can typically be added.
6. Compatible harnesses and devices are displayed Was this helpful? YesNo open in new page |
What is the difference between Bench Harnesses and On Bike Harnesses? |
Bench Harness The bench harnesses are plugged directly into the main plug on the ECU itself. You need to unplug the main harness ECU plug and then plug in the Bench Harness to read/write to the ECU. The ECU is powered by a 12v power supply while using the Bench Harness. No modifications are required to the main bike harness when using the Bench Harness. Live engine data, data logging and Diagnostics is not available with the Bench Harness.
Bench Harness key points: - Used when the ECU has been removed from the bike
- Requires separate 12V power supply (not included with Bench Harness)
- Cannot read live engine data or diagnostics
On-Bike Harness: Most On-Bike Harnesses are installed permanently onto the bike. They allow you to easily Read/Write to the ECU and Read and Clear Diagnostics (On Applicable Models). On-Bike Harnesses generally allow you to connect to Engine Data allowing you to view real time engine data on the computer screen. On Bike Harnesses are the best option when tuning on the Dyno or logging data for Autotuning.
On-Bike Harness key points: - Installed and typically left on the bike
- Can read live engine data
- Can be used for Autotuning with a LogBox interface or on a Dyno
- Can read and clear diagnostics if available from manufacturer

Which Universal Harness is compatible with my bike? |
Woolich Racing’s Universal Harnesses can be used with Woolich Racing Tuned (WRT) software to read the ECU Part Number, Write and View Diagnostics* on motorcycles
that come with the new universal standard OBD2 plug. Woolich Racing offers several different Universal Harnesses which are designed to work with the different communication interfaces used for various bikes.
The compatibility of each type depends on which type of communication interface is used with a particular model, so you will need to check which type of interface is used for each model either using the Woolich Racing Tuned software, or by checking the Products page for your motorcycle.
*Reading Diagnostics is only possible on models where
Diagnostics are available in the Bin File Definition

Power Supplies for Bench Flashing |
The use of a bench harness to work with an ECU requires that a 12V DC power supply be provided. Woolich Racing does supply a range of 12V supplies for this purpose or you can provide one yourself. If you provide your own power supply then you will need the 'Barrel to 2 Pin Plug Bench Harness Power Supply Connector', if you use one of the Woolich Racing supplies below this part is not needed as the power supply comes ready to connect to the harness.

What power supply do I need to power my bench harness? |
If you have purchased a bench harness, you will require a 12 volt DC power supply. You can now purchase a Woolich Racing power supply under the 'Harnesses' section on the product page for any model, with the plug types available to suit most parts of the world. You can also find them on our 12V Power Supplies page or under the 'Products' drop-down menu.
Our power supplies come complete with an integrated on/off switch and 2-pin connector to fit directly into our bench harnesses. They are designed specifically to work with ECUs, and typically put out a voltage close to 13V, which is the ideal voltage for ECU reading and writing. If you are using a power supply that only puts out a nominal 12V, this may not be sufficient for the ECU to operate with our flashing products. In recent years we have seen customers face issues when using generic 12V power supplies which not designed to be used with ECUs. Our 12 volt power supply units have the following specifications: Nominal Output Voltage: 12V DC (max output 13V) Current: 1.5 Amps Input Voltage: 100-240V AC Frequency: 50/60Hz

What is the difference between the USB Interface and the Log Box Interface? |
The Woolich Racing Tuned software which runs on a computer communicates with the ECU using an electronic interface. There are two types of Woolich Racing interfaces currently available for sale; a USB v3 interface, and a Log Box v3 interface.
USB v3 interface
Log Box v3 interface
A USB interface allows you to read and write to an ECU, access diagnostics (for bin files which have it available) and view some live engine data. The USB interfaces are not compatible with some of the newer models. Please check the products page for a model to determine which interfaces are supported. A Log Box interface can do everything that a USB can, and also allow you to record engine data while running the bike and log AFR (Air-fuel ratio) data when used together with the Zeitronix ZT-3/ZT-4 wideband sensor kit (model dependent). These additional features on the Log Box also allow you to use our Woolich Racing AutoTune feature in the WRT software. The letter on the interface denotes what ECU type it is capable of flashing. - B: Bosch ECU's
- D: Denso ECU's
- D-CAN: Denso ECU's using CAN Bus protocols
- K: Keihin ECU's
- M: Mitsubishi ECU's
- M-Duc: Mitsubishi-Ducati ECU's
- H: Harley Davidson ECU's (only for approved tuning shops)
Note: Engine Data is not available for all models.

Why do I need to buy a Bin File Definition? I already own the Bin File in my ECU. |
The 'Bin File' and the 'Bin File Definition' are two very different types of files and the terms are sometimes misused which can lead to some confusion about what they are and how they are used.
A Bin File (or binary file) is written to every ECU and contains all of the information needed to control the specific vehicle that the ECU was manufactured for. The bin file contains maps for eg. fueling, ignition timing etc and the location of these maps and other information is usually different for ECUs from different manufacturer/model/years but can also be different for ECUs from the same model of bike. The Bin File Definition is a file which details where all of the specific information for the ECU is stored. The Bin File Definition then contains all the information about the location of specific maps, limiters, etc and makes it possible to write to a specific ECU correctly. It is not possible to write to an ECU without having the corresponding Bin File Definition available also. When you make a purchase for your specific model of motorcycle you are not actually purchasing the Bin File, you are purchasing the Bin File Definition. The Bin File Definition is used within the Woolich Racing Tuned software, and it provides access for maps and settings allowing you to easily edit the Bin File within the Woolich Racing Tuned software. Without the Bin File Definition, you are not able to edit the bin file or make any changes to the ECU in your bike.

Will Woolich flash my ECU for me? |
Woolich Racing offers hardware and software solutions to allow users to read and write to motorcycle ECUs, thereby applying a 'tune' for a specific motorcycle. Woolich Racing does not flash ECUs for customers.
Woolich Racing creates the hardware and software for you, or tuning shops, to tune ECUs.
You can either purchase your own tuning kit as listed on the products page and tune the ECU in your motorcycle yourself, or we can help you find a local tuner or even a tuner who accepts ECUs via the mail and flashes them with their own specific mapping.
If you'd like us to find you a tuner, please provide the year, make and model of your motorcycle along with your Country/State/City/ZIP code and we will endeavor to make recommendations for Woolich tuners in your area.

What Bin File Definitions are free with the WRT software? |
Bin File Definition Keys, or more commonly just called ‘keys’ are the licenses that are purchased and used to flash an ECU. A license used on an ECU grants unlimited flashing to that specific individual ECU. Unlike some other flashing companies, we have a large amount of ECUs that are either free and allow for unlimited flashing or they are able to be purchased once and then are free and unlimited after that.
100% Free to flash forever (included with purchase): - 2002-2020 Suzuki GSX-1300R (Hayabusa)
- 2007-2011 Suzuki GSXR 1000
- 2008-2020 Suzuki GSXR 750
- 2008-2020 Suzuki GSXR 600
- 2007-2012 Suzuki GSX-1300BK (B-King)
One-time purchase, then unlimited flashing: - 2005-2006 Suzuki GSXR 1000
- 2006-2007 Suzuki GSXR 750
- 2004-2005 Suzuki GSXR 750
- 2006-2007 Suzuki GSXR 600
- 2004-2005 Suzuki GSXR 600
- 2012-2014 Yamaha R1
- 2009-2011 Yamaha R1
- 2007-2008 Yamaha R1
- 2012-2016 Yamaha R6
- 2008-2011 Yamaha R6
- 2006-2007 Yamaha R6
Anything not shown in the above list requires one key for each individual ECU flashed. These keys are what let you flash an individual ECU as many times as you want. Typically, how shops approach this is they charge a flat fee for ECU tuning to cover their cost of the key as well as what they feel their work is worth. This would be in addition to the cost of the harness and dyno tuning time if tuning on the dyno is part of your service. This way, the customer’s ECU is tied to the tuner's account so if they ever need any changes in the future, they can bring their bike/ECU back to you and you’re familiar with everything, and you already have their map files saved. Bulk keys: Tuning shops can purchase Bulk Keys at a discounted rate. These keys are in a generic non-assigned state so they don’t have to worry about what to use them on at the time of purchase. They can then be assigned them to a specific model once the need arises. Additionally, these discounted files can be used on the models above that are a one-time purchase (unlimited models) further adding to the value of those models. (These discounted bulk keys cannot be allocated to race kit ECUs like EM Pro, KRT, HRC or YEC). These Support Center articles may also be of interest to you:
